Join Mike Azevedo for a week of painting and illustration, where you'll develop a complete artwork from initial concept to final polish. You’ll explore his distinctive process, master key techniques for capturing color, light, and narrative, and learn how to craft a professional workflow that brings your creation to life.WEEK CONTENT
Schedule
- Getting Started: Meet Mike and discover how he built his career as an illustrator. You’ll see examples of his past work, learn about his approach to storytelling through art, and discuss the key tools and software he relies on. This initial session will set the stage for the week’s workshop and introduce the final illustration you’ll be creating.
- Process: Mike’s workflow, from initial sketches to refined color and rendering. You’ll learn how he plans compositions, manages layers, and maintains a clear vision throughout each project.
- Fundamental Deep Dive: Explore key concepts behind strong concept art and illustration. Mike will demonstrate how composition, narrative, and visual storytelling work together to strengthen a piece, helping you lay a solid foundation for your own projects.
- How to Effectively Do Studies: Learn how to effectively do painting studies from photos. Mike will show you how to capture accurate colors, values, and lighting, ensuring you understand form and atmosphere. By understanding observational skills, you’ll gain better control over your painting process.
- Build your own illustration: Apply these insights to create an original artwork from scratch, guided by Mike’s feedback. By the end, you’ll have a polished illustration that showcases your growth in composition, storytelling, and rendering techniques.
Workshop info
We provide high-end computers with dual monitors, Wacom Intuos tablets (including styluses), and all necessary software licenses to ensure participants have everything they need for the workshop.
Courses run from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break. We welcome students starting at 9:30 a.m. with fresh coffee. Our school is located at 13 Rue de Rosenwald, 75015 Paris.
